Whitetail Pro Log
By Keith Dewars*
Do
you keep track of your hunts? Do you remember what the weather was like
when you shot that monster buck? Have you ever wanted to get that buck's
rack measured? I recently took a look at Whitetail Pro Log, a software
application designed to easily and accurately manage and store whitetail
harvest data and trail camera pictures.
After seamlessly installing the program and rebooting my computer,
I started the application and filled out the setup information, which
included my hunting club name, address, website URL, etc. This
information, along with a company or club logo, can be printed on any
reports that you wish to output.

Next, I tried out the data entry section, which consists of two
parts-
- The first set of information, on the left-hand side of the screen,
is where information is entered about the deer that you or your
clients harvest. This information can include the hunter's name,
harvest method, date, time and location of the kill (even GPS
coordinates), and weather conditions such as wind speed and
direction, temperature and barometric pressure. Other input fields
include the deer's age, gender, size and condition, and a spot to
display a photo of the successful hunter.
- The second information area, on the right-hand side of the screen,
is for inputting antler data, the measurements of mass and tine
length for your trophy. The program supplies you with handy charts
that can be printed to help you with this task; they show where the
measurements should be taken. After your antler measurements are
entered, simply click the "Score" button, the program
calculates the Gross and Net measurements for the buck. This can be
tailored to suit the type of score you prefer, Pope and Young
(P&Y), Boone and Crockett (B&C) or Buckmasters Trophy
Records (BTR).
The information you provide can be printed out in reports that will
calculate the average age of deer harvested, average weight, average
rack size, etc. This can come in handy for the recreational hunter who
wants to keep better track of the deer herd on his property or for the
large hunting club that wants to manage their deer herd for size and
health.
Whitetail Pro Log also allows you to manage your trail cam images and
any pictures you may have taken during the hunting season.
Double-clicking an image allows you to view that image at full screen.
Whitetail Pro Log is an easy to use program that would be a useful
tool for any hunter's computer. To find out more about Whitetail Pro Log
or to purchase a copy of the program, go to www.WhitetailProLog.com.
