Sportsmen unite to protect hunting with dogs (3/3/2003)

California -

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is coordinating with numerous sportsmen’s organizations from California and across the United States to defend the rights of sportsmen who hunt with dogs.

The Masters of Foxhounds Association of America and other concerned California sportsmen have partnered with the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance to raise awareness and motivate sportsmen to take action in opposition to California Assembly Bill 342.  The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Paul Koretz (D-Los Angeles), would make it illegal for any dog to pursue or take a mammal.  It would ban bear, fox, rabbit, raccoon, coyote hunting and more.  The bill will cause an increase in conflicts between people and bears, contribute to the spread of rabies and cause an increase in livestock damage.

The sportsmen coalition is building a strong grassroots campaign to defeat the measure.  The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance has retained a lobbyist to represent sportsmen’s concerns and will conduct mailings on behalf of the coalition to get the word out to Californians about the severity of the proposed legislation.

California Assembly Bill 342 may be heard as early as March 14, 2003.

Take Action!  California sportsmen should contact their assemblymen today.  Let them know that Assembly Bill 342 is the anti-hunting lobby’s attempt to restrict our hunting heritage.  Tell them that the bill will cause health and safety concerns.
